The benefits of thermal treatments
Sulphurous water containing sodium chloride, bromine and iodine play an important role in recovering and maintaining an efficient, good physical condition because it is highly beneficial to all the mucous membranes.
Thermal treatments are important in terms of:
- Prevention: they help to reduce the intensity of symptoms and the frequency of acute phases of the disease, resulting in a reduction in the assumption of drugs;
- Therapy: they help to reduce the symptoms of certain chronic pathologies and improve the patient’s general conditions;
- Rehabilitation: they help to recover normal functions of the locomotory, respiratory and vascular systems.
Respiratory system
Widespread clinical and experimental research has shown the therapeutic usefulness of inhalant treatments using sulphurous water containing sodium chloride, bromine and iodine for the whole respiratory system.
In particular, in 1999, the Centro Studi e Ricerche Terme di Sirmione carried out some studies to assess the efficacy of thermal treatments for otitis media with effusion, rhinitis, nose-sinusal polyposis, sinusitis and chronic bronchitis.
Research has shown that inhalatory therapy strengthens the defences of the mucous membranes of the airways (nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs) and the middle ear against inflammatory forms through these functions: humidification and regeneration of the mucous membranes, anti-inflammatory, mucolytic, muco-regulating action, and increase in immunitary defences.
Therefore, it can be confirmed that in the field of otorhinolaryngology and bronchopneumology, inhalatory treatments with Terme di Sirmione water is an effective therapy in support of pharmacological treatment for certain chronic forms and a valid prevention against acute recurrent inflammatory forms.
Rheumatic pathologies
The sulphurous component of thermal water has a particular tropism for the cartilaginous tissue of the articular cavities. Thermal muds and baths are recommended for certain rheumatic pathologies because they perform an analgesic, decontracturing action and improve joint mobility.
Dermatological diseases
Sulphurous water containing sodium chloride, bromine and iodine exercises a keratolytic, keratoplastic action on the skin: in fact, it fosters the loss of the layers nearest to the skin surface and stimulates the production of a new, healthy, flexible, soft, corneous layer. Balneotherapy is particularly recommended for certain skin diseases.
Circulatory disorders
Hydromassage in thermal water reduces the sense of heaviness and swelling of the legs in those suffering from circulatory disorders and in particular in those suffering from varicose veins in the lower limbs.
Gynaecology
Thermal water performs an anti-inflammatory and immune-stimulating action on the mucous membrane of the genital apparatus.
